Matt Law explains “slightly strange” transfer situation of one highly rated Chelsea player

Chelsea are in the busiest part of their summer now, with players coming in and going out at some speed.

There’s a big question mark up front, where the Blues have added two quality players in the form of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.

That’s created doubt over the future of Nicolas Jackson. He is still well regarded at Chelsea, but given he may now be third choice, there’s also the reality that he’s up for sale at the right price – and there’s plenty of interest in him.

Jackson for sale – but pathway to a move still looks difficult

Matt Law’s piece for the Daily Telegraph explains the Senegal star’s position pretty well.

Chelsea “have not ruled out” keeping the striker, but know that there is a “question mark over his future”, and it’s claimed Jackson is “not viewed as being untouchable.”

There are a number of teams interested, but Jackson is in the “slightly strange situation of being on the list of most clubs, but is nobody’s No.1 target.”

So it’s going to be a case of wait and see. Newcastle, Manchester United and Aston Villa could all be interested if they sell their strikers, but they would also look at other options.

It seems like for now the sensible move is to consider him a part of our squad and not worry too much about a sale. So many things have to fall into place for him to go, and clearly Chelsea still value him and think they can get more good play out of him.

Jackson, Delap and Joao Pedro bringing Enzo Maresca interesting options

If Jackson does stay, it will be interesting to see how he’s used. We could well see two of the three strikers on our books used at the same time, with one out wide and one up front, or a formation shift using two of them up front.

  1. Chelsea FC should develop guiu to become world class striker that he can compete with jao and Delap . CFc still needs striker though because of to many games to play . They need to build a team for EPL and build a team for UCL . Premier league is too physical and fast paced . Needs to rotate well the team to avoid dip form and injuries . But how can the manager and the club directors to makes this squad happy .

    1. I don’t understand this obsession of trying to let Jackson go. Guiu has been given some game time last season and he didn’t impress that much. Chelsea is a different team when Jackson is on, and Joao Pedro and Delap haven’t played for Chelsea in the premier league so far and as such we can’t be sure whether they are suitably fitting the squad or not. Furthermore, this season Chelsea will have to play more games against high quality opposition and it will be imperative for the team to have a deep squad, this means that Chelsea needs all hands on deck. The confusion I get about the whole issue is why would you bank on someone who is not tested yet by bringing in a new striker or keep Jackson for a few more transfer windows and sell him is he is totally not needed
