Miguel Delaney’s chat on Sky Sports yesterday about Enzo Maresca’s situation at Chelsea was really fascinating.
The journalist speculated that the Blues boss’ job could “potentially” be under threat if results stay bad. But the most interesting thing he had to say was about the manager’s wardrobe.
Maresca’s fashion decisions raising questions “in the game”

“There’s a lot of noise and chatter in the game that things haven’t haven’t been quite right at Chelsea,” Delaney said.
“The players have been surprised by some of the decisions. There has been a bit more disconnect between Maresca and the hierarchy. People have even noticed that he’s been wearing different clothes!
“Sometimes he goes for sports gear, sometimes he’s more sharply dressed. This is seen as a manifestation of a consciousness he’s had about a new pressure that’s come on him.”
Of course it’s not just the clothes – the results are what is really bringing the pressure.
“And for all I’m talking about that sort of thing, you can’t escape the results, which are showing that there’s something wrong in that team. And its really escalating.”

Managers sending messages with fashion decisions
We had noticed the Maresca fashion shift this season – although we hadn’t yet connected it to his general discontent, which he’s vocalising more and more. We were more concerned just with his ugly jeans trainers in the Brentford game a week ago.
But this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a manager send a message with their style. Remember Jose Mourinho’s military haircut?
We will be keeping a close eye on Maresca’s wardrobe from now on. We wonder what he will whip out if we lose both games next week?
