The Athletic reveal what Chelsea did last season in regards to important first star

Chelsea turned down an approach for Pedro Neto from a top European club last summer according to The Athletic.

The Blues had a busy window, in which they totally revamped their frontline with five attacking signings, with four attackers also departing.

Chelsea also have two attackers arriving next summer in winger Geovany Quenda and striker Emmanuel Emegha.

The Blues sold Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku, whilst Nicolas Jackson joined Bayern Munich on loan.

Two new wingers arrived in Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens, whilst Estevao also arrived, although a deal had been agreed in 2024.

Despite the new arrivals Neto has established himself as an important player for Maresca, and has started every Premier League game this season.

However, The Athletic have reported the Blues turned down an approach for the Portugal international in the summer from a top European club.

The report adds Neto’s character, work rate and quality have made him hugely popular within Chelsea, as well as his versatility.

Neto joined from Wolves in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth an initial £51.4m, and has made 68 appearances for the Blues, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists.

Chelsea face potential big decision next summer

Neto was described by Jose Mourinho as one of the best wingers in the world earlier this season, but Chelsea could be faced with a big decision in the summer.

The arrival of Quenda leaves them with three right wingers, although Neto can also operate from the left, and it remains to be seen if Chelsea will enter next season with five wingers in the squad.

Given the amount of rotation Maresca carries out, and how many games the Blues are likely to play it’s not inconceivable to think Chelsea will have five wingers next season.

However, if they decide to move one on, Neto could be a candidate, although it would be a big loss if the club made that decision.
