Chelsea signing plays in ugly way but is producing results; has already matched Mount

Chelsea won comfortable at the weekend, meaning there’s plenty of praise to go around. One player getting some (rather backhanded) praise from pundits this week was Alejandro Garnacho.

“The way he drives into the box, the way he’s developing some comfort in that, the fact that he just doesn’t seemingly get scared by whatever defender is in front of him, is definitely a Chelsea trait. I think there’s an argument to be made that he fits Chelsea’s identity as a player a lot more than a lot of our other recent signings,” presenter Dan Dormer explained on the London is Blue podcast.

“He is not necessarily aesthetically the best player to watch, but he has serious speed, we saw that for the Pedro Neto goal. He’s now match Mason Mount’s all time goals and assists record for Man United.”

That’s very impressive, given Mount has been at United for a couple of years now, albeit a dreadful Man United and in period where he’s been crushed by injuries. But regardless, the fact that Garnacho is so quickly turning good play into goals and assists is incredibly useful and has all but guaranteed him a place in Enzo Maresca’s starting lineup despite his recent arrival.

In other news…

Estevao Willian made a big impact in the win over Wolves after coming off the bench, and the pundits on TalkSport were going crazy with their comparisons after the game.

The Blues ended up with 3 players in the statistical team of the week after their comfortable win – although it might not be the 3 players you expect from the win over Wolves.
