“It’s a no brainer” – Joe Cole urges Chelsea to beat rivals to signing of “superb” player

Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has urged the Blues to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.

Chelsea totally revamped their front line in the summer as they made five attacking signings, with two of those wingers.

The Blues have made a good start to the season and sit third six points behind leaders Arsenal, and are also the second top scorers in the division behind Manchester City.

Despite signing a number of players in the summer, with the January window around the corner Chelsea have inevitably been linked with players.

Chelsea have been linked with Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, whilst Semenyo has a release clause of £65m.

The Blues are thought to be unlikely to make a move for Semenyo, but Cole has urged Chelsea to sign the Ghana international.

“Knowing Chelsea, he might be too old! he said as quoted by Metro.

“I’d have to check his age, but from a football perspective, if he’s available and he wants to come, it’s a no-brainer in terms of bringing him into the football club.

“With Chelsea’s model, there’ll be a financial element and evaluation element to it, so it’ll come down to that.

“He’d be a welcome addition to the Chelsea squad, and he probably starts, because he’s been superb for Bournemouth.”

Semenyo has been in great form the Cherries this season, with six goals in three assists in 11 Premier League appearances.

Chelsea signed two left wingers in the summer

Whilst Semenyo is clearly a top quality player, the chances of the Blues splashing out on another winger six months after signing two is unlikely.

Chelsea spent upwards of £90m on Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens, although both are still finding their feet.

Garnacho has started to find his form, and has four goal contributions in his last four games, whilst Gittens’ form is still a bit up and down, but he has shown glimpses of his ability.
