Journalist Andy Brassell isn’t convinced Jamie Gittens will be a success at Chelsea following his transfer this summer.
Chelsea signed Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth an initial £48m, but he’s had a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old was one of five attacking signings, and he’s currently competing with Alejandro Garnacho for a place on the left wing.
Journalist not convinced Jamie Gittens will succeed at Chelsea
Gittens has been criticised for his start to the season, and he’s only started two of Chelsea’s opening 11 Premier League games.
However, Gittens scored first Chelsea goal against Wolves in the Carabao Cup, a game he was named man of the match in.
The England under-21 international was also named man of the match in the 5-1 demolition of Ajax in the Champions League.

Gittens is understood to be fine after limping off during England U21s win against the Republic of Ireland, and should be fit for Chelsea’s upcoming games.
How Gittens does at Chelsea remains to be seen, but Brassell isn’t convinced he’ll be go on to be a success at the club.
“He scored that brilliant goal against Wolves in the Cup as well, which underlined his talent,” he told talkSPORT.
“I always wondered if Chelsea really needed him, to be perfectly honest. And the thing is, he was coming from a position where he had a brilliant first half to last season and quite a poor second half.
“It felt to me that Chelsea were buying one for the future as well as for the present. But it’s sort of been a bit of a reclamation project as well.
Competition for places at Chelsea is fierce
For Gittens to develop and reach his potential he needs consistent minutes, but Brassel isn’t sure he’ll get that opportunity at Chelsea.
“But he needs to be playing consistent minutes to be at his best level as well,” he added.
“So I’m not 100% convinced that it will work at Chelsea.
“We’ve seen little hints of what he can do, but it’s not been amazing so far.”
