Chelsea’s winter rollercoaster goes on with exciting fixtures piling up

If you think the last few years of supporting Chelsea have been a rollercoaster, you should see the last few days.

Just over a week ago we had steamrollered Barcelona 3-0, fired our way into the top tier of the Champions League phase, and were preparing to take on Arsenal with a whole new wave of confidence.

That game was changed by a red card in the first half, which whipped us 180 degrees from full of belief to suddenly full of doubt as we took on Europe’s top club team right now.

But a gritty and determined second half performance not only secured us a point against the odds – it also convinced a lot of people that this team had turned a corner and was now ready to really compete for the league title. That was the talk for a few days, then came Wednesday night, where we were well beaten by Leeds. That whipped us back the other way – suddenly this team showed all the mental fragility of the last couple of years, and the same frustrations in attack and in defence.

It’s almost impossible to predict where this Chelsea season ends up, and much like playing crypto casino games, it’s going to be a whole lot of fun finding out where the forces of fate take us.

The next month counts for a lot – we’ve got to take on 7 more games this month alone, with a real mix of fixtures across different competitions against a variety of teams. While there are no “big 6 teams” on the agenda, we think it’s actually a sneaky tough run in the league. Bournemouth twice – they are super dangerous and can beat anyone on their day.

Everton under David Moyes aren’t messing around. They will come to Stamford Bridge and set up to frustrate us. The bad news is that that might our easiest game.

Going to St James’ Park, where we have a bad record, could get ugly. We also have a Saturday evening game against in form Aston Villa, who are starting to look like one of our big challengers for a top four spot.

None of those games look a gimme, and the easiest of the month was possibly the trip to Leeds which we just lost. the fact we won’t have Moises Caicedo back for a league game until the Newcastle match on the 20th is another huge factor here.

The rollercoaster ride isn’t ending anytime soon.
