Chelsea dominated in the first half against Aston Villa today but ended up losing the game.
On Sky Sports at full time, Jamie Redknapp and Steve Sidwell were the pundits and they tried to explain what had gone wrong:
“There’s been lots of games where I’ve seen that inconsistency… they were so in control… from Chelsea’s point of view you just can’t capitulate like they did. I don’t remember them creating another real chance or opportunity [after the subs],” Redknapp said.
“That kind of play isn’t ever going to get you in a position where you’re going to be winning or competing for titles.”
Chelsea have the same problems as ever after billions spent
“Of late, things have gone the other way [after some big wins]. There’s no confidence or belief in this team. You feel like there’s a real lack of know-how in this team…. It’s the same again today, they just need that real clinical edge and that cutting way of winning games,” Sidwell added.
“We know the model, it’s going to be youth and giving them experience. It’s been 90 games since they played someone over 30… They need someone with experience in that team.”
It’s the same thing we’ve been saying all along – this team isn’t going to improve if it keeps selling players as they approach their peak and replacing them with younger, more raw players.
