(Video): Chelsea’s hero scores again to rescue Blues’ Champions League hopes

Chelsea have finally broken through against Pafos in the Champions League.

After 79 minutes which have seen some pretty dire and slow football along the way, the Blues stayed patient and got their breakthrough.

As so often before, it was Moises Caicedo who made the difference for his team. Usually it’s defending, sometimes it’s lashing them in from range. In this case it was a header. Wesley Fofana’s near post challenge on Pedro Neto’s corner managed to flick the ball into the air, and Caicedo was steaming in at the far post with a run on his man to finish the chance.

There was a shove from Benoit Badiashile in the mix there, but the ref declined to look at it. That’s probably fair enough, given we could easily have had a first half penalty.

We really would rather have scored a few more goals from open play in this one, but at least it’s 3 points. We now head into a really juicy game against Napoli next week with everything to play for.

Let’s hope that Cole Palmer is fit by then, and has found some form. We continue to look a little bit lost without him.

In other news…

Liam Rosenior has continued to use Malo Gusto inverted as a number ten in this game – something fans don’t love. We’re with them on that one.

Cole Palmer is not in the squad tonight – we were expecting him to be rested, but the update we had from Liam Rosenior about him is a little worrying. It still sounds like he should be OK to play on Sunday.
