BREAKING: Chelsea’s loan plans for two defenders in disarray after youngster refuses move

Just as we were settling in for a quiet Friday night on the Chelsea news beat, things have started kicking off.

As is increasingly the case, the drama is centred around our sister club Strasbourg.

Chelsea in a muddle over loan defenders

French journalist Fabrice Hawkins is reporting that Chelsea are trying to bring Mamadou Sarr, the defender they signed from Strasbourg in the summer and then loaned back for the year, to Stamford Bridge this month rather than in the summer.

They will then send Aaron Anselmino, recently himself brought back from a loan, to the Alsatians as a ready made replacement for Sarr.

Makes sense right? And it also explains why Anselmino was recalled from Dortmund despite the fact that things were going well there. But it’s not going to be so simple. Hawkins says the “problem” is that Anselmino doesn’t want to go to Strasbourg. And the French club won’t let Sarr go without a “significant” reinforcement for the player who is a key member of their squad.

Once again this just stinks of bad planning from the sporting directors – why is this happening on the 30th of January? Why wasn’t this discussed and agreed in December and enacted smoothly at the start of the month?

It will be very interesting to see where this goes in the next 48 hours.

In other news…

Yaya Toure is not one of the pundits we usually get speaking about Chelsea players, but he’s come out with some hot takes this week about Liam Rosenior. The former midfielder is a huge fan – you can read this thoughts in the post here.

Enzo Fernandez had an interesting celebration after he scored a penalty in midweek against Napoli. He explained what it mean, and you can read about it here.
