Chelsea winger’s transfer could be in doubt as January rolls on with no fee agreed yet

The team for tonight’s game against Charlton is out, with Liam Rosenior picking a very rotated team and leaving some senior players out of the squad entirely.

George move starting to look in doubt despite desire to sell

One notable absence – or rather, one absence which isn’t notable at all in a way – is Tyrique George. Since the return to fitness of Liam Delap and other attacks, the winger isn’t getting in the matchday squad.

In fact, he’s not been in a squad at all since October. There’s just no room for him in the squad, despite the regular shocking showings from Jamie Gittens and Pedro Neto.

It’s clear what happens now – George almost left on a permanent deal in the summer, and clearly he’s being hawked around potential interested teams now. Given we’re a third of the way through January, it’s surprising how little movement there’s been.

It’s been known he wasn’t wanted since summer, and Chelsea haven’t put him in a squad since October – a move could have been lined up months ago and executed at the start of the month.

The hold up seems to indicate there aren’t many buyers at the price we’re asking. Perhaps we’re running down the clock to later in the window when teams are getting more desperate. But for our sake and George’s, it would have been nice to have something sorted sooner.

In other news…

Chelsea’s team for this game surprised us in a number of ways, not least how many changes there were. But there’s no Estevao – does this mean he will start against Arsenal?

Shim Mheuka isn’t in the squad for today’s game, but he consoled himself by scoring a hattrick for the U21 earlier. He’s available for loan to the right club this month.
