While Chelsea were busy playing Man City, it seems their search for a manager to replace Enzo Maresca was taking major steps forward.
Julien Laurens, the French journalist who covers the Premier League for ESPN, has just written that the new Chelsea coach, Strasbourg man Liam Rosenior, has come to London this afternoon to finalise his move across the Channel.
After taking his last game as Strasbourg manager last night, it was pretty clear what was coming next from his comments post game, where he said he “didn’t know” if that would be his last game. Well, it was.
Rosenior closes in on Chelsea deal
“Liam Rosenior arrived in London this afternoon,” the journalist wrote.
“He will sign his Chelsea contract and his appointment should be announced tomorrow.”
Of course as we wrote earlier today, the problem was never appointing Rosenior, who is effectively already a Chelsea employee, as Strasbourg share the same owners as Chelsea. The issue is with replacing him at Strasbourg. Their fans are going to be mutinous no matter what happens, as they’re stripped of an important part of their setup mid season.
But if we fail to secure a replacement that impresses them, that toxicity will be off the scale. Let’s hope the fact that Rosenior has come to London indicates that progress has been made on that front.
