Tosin got a start for Chelsea in Liam Rosenior’s first Premier League game on Saturday, but was taken off with what looked like an injury in the first half, to be replaced by Wesley Fofana, who was supposed to be resting.
Asked for an update on the defender, as well as Enzo Fernandez’s fitness after the coach revealed he was ill, Rosenior had bad news on both fronts.
Rosenior to miss central defender for “a few weeks”

“Yeah, so Enzo trained today. None of those lads are at 100%. It’s a bad illness,” the coach explained.
“So we’ll make that decision on Enzo tomorrow and what he looks like in terms of style from the bench. Unfortunately for Tosin, there’s something in his hamstring which is going to rule him out for the next few weeks. But I can’t be more precise with that at the moment.”
That is bad timing, and perhaps also explains some of the notable shift towards the idea of Chelsea signing a central defender this month rather than in the summer. Rumours about a January signing have ramped up.
Tosin was preferred as a starter to Benoit Badiashile by Rosenior in the Brentford game, giving a clue about what Rosenior might prefer, but with Tosin out again and Badiashile and Fofana’s fitness never reliable, a further option does make more sense.
In other news…
Rosenior also spoke about Chelsea’s ill and injured players, and gave some big clues about who might feature tomorrow, with Enzo among a group we don’t expect to see, but some players also set to return after missing time.
Chelsea’s focus this month seems to be on signing a defender, but according to some that’s not the only position they’re looking to strengthen this year.
