Rosenior’s upcoming run gives perfect chance to show doubters what he’s made of

The Liam Rosenior era is underway at Chelsea, and so far the new coach is beating most expectations.

He’s not really qualified for the job, looking at his CV. And from the moment he was appointed, there was a lot of mockery, both from Chelsea fans and fans of other teams, of past “cringey” viral video clips of him speaking about his coaching philosophy.

But the results so far speak for themselves. 4 wins from 5 games, and that solitary loss against a very strong Arsenal team, by three goals to two. If you’d been backing Chelsea to win these games, you’d have got decent odds considering they were in poor form and had a rookie manager coming in, and in the end you’d have had as much fun as if you were betting in a casino. They’ve come through them all with great success, and now face some sterner tests to work out just how good Rosenior really is.

West Ham should be an easy win – but they’ve won two on the bounce and are fighting for their lives. Then there’s the tricky second leg of that Arsenal game, where we have to go to the Emirates.

After that there’s something of an easier stretch when we take on Wolves (who are bottom, but much improved of late), then Leeds (also on the up), then Rosenior’s old team Hull City in the FA Cup. That’s pretty much the only chance for any weakening of the team in the months to come.

After that it’s Burnley, then another game against Arsenal, this time in the league. Then, finally, there’s a break – but only for international duty. So the new manager still won’t get much time on the training pitch with his players, but at least gets a fortnight to maybe think a little bigger picture.

The run to the end of the season after that is tricky too – Villa, Newcastle, Everton, Man City, Man U, with Liverpool Tottenham and plenty of Champions League and FA Cup games still to be added to the mix too.

By the time we close out the league season on the 24th of May against Sunderland, we will have seen the new man really get a chance to show what he can do against all kinds of teams, in numerous different competitions.

Let’s hope things are still looking as positive come the end of the season as they are now.
