The crazy changes in the football viewing experience for Chelsea fans

There was a time when following Chelsea was very different to how it is today.

Even in the last 30 years, the changes have been vast. Back in the day, very few games were televised, and even if you caught the result on the radio there was no way to watch the highlights back. In the day before the internet’s widespread adoption, reading a newspaper match report of the Blues’ game the next day was genuinely the best way to get a sense of how the game had gone.

People were following the game through the written word far more than through actually seeing the matches themselves, which seems amazing now.

You’d have to wait until Match of the Day to see your team’s goals. That’s an experience most of us have forgotten now – if we’re not watching the game live, we’re following it online and seeing the goals as soon as they go in, no matter if it’s the early rounds of the Carabao Cup or the Champions League final.

Gradually, through the 90s and 2000s, satellite TV increased the games available for fans to watch, and eventually streaming sites made the ability to watch every game available to everyone. It seems crazy to think that less than 20 years ago, even the most tech-savvy and avid Chelsea fan simply wasn’t able to watch 100% of their team’s games live every season.

Sports betting is also changing the way that Chelsea fans follow games. Betting on sites like vegasslotsonline.com can add a lot of spice to a game, but can also make a frustrating team even more infuriating to follow.

We’d recommend not betting against the Blues, no matter how bad they are playing. You don’t want that kind of split loyalty in your mind, and in our experience the “emotional hedge” never really works anyway.

Instead, if you really want to bet on a game the Blues are playing in, bet the over on goals. That way you get to celebrate every one that Chelsea put into the net extra hard, but also have a consolation when they concede.

The other fun way to back your team is to look at futures markets – bet on Chelsea to win the FA Cup or the Premier League before the season starts and enjoy the rollercoaster ride of their entire path through the tournament.

Whatever you do, it’s pretty clear that we’ve come a long way since the 90s.
