On a podcast the other day, we heard something very worrying, which said a lot about the deeper malaise at Chelsea under this ownership.
The journalist pointed out that Chelsea hadn’t had a home attendance of more than 40,000 in 2026. Stamford Bridge’s capacity is close to 42,000.
A look at the stats shows it’s much worse than that – in fact, our last home attendance which cracked 40,000 was way back in October when we faced Sunderland, and lost 2-1.
Since then, bad results, and a dislike of the style of football of Enzo Maresca and then Liam Rosenior, has kept fans away. The growing sense of apathy has been tangible in the stadium, and not just from the empty seats.
Given the new ownership are obsessed with opening a new stadium or expanding Stamford Bridge, it’s not a great look. What are they going to do with 80,000 seats if they can’t fill 42,000? They need to build a successful, likeable team and a connection with their supporters before they worry about trying to double their match-day revenue.
Still, with a few games of the current season still to go and the team having beaten Leeds in the FA Cup semi final, we’re hoping that things finish strong. The good news about the stadium not selling out is that you can still get Chelsea tickets on fanatix.com, even for bigger games.
Our remaining home matches see us take on Nottingham Forest and Tottenham, two massive games we need Stamford Bridge rocking for. Meanwhile we also travel to Liverpool and Sunderland, a great chance to go and see some really historic stadia with great atmospheres.
Plus, if you’re really feeling confident, you can check out the FA Cup final against Man City next month.
With the team just turning a corner, this is the time for supporters to come out and support the Blues. It’s all felt very hopeless this season, but a winning run to close out the campaign would make anything possible.
Forest, Liverpool, Spurs and Sunderland all make for really interesting games, winnable but not easy. If we get a run together, we could be going into the final day with a lot to play for in terms of qualifying for Europe. Come down to the Fulham Road and let’s get behind the team, and get that magic number above 40,000 again.
The team needs us, and we can help them get over the line back into European football.
