The French players’ union has nominated Valentin Barco for the best young player in Ligue 1 award.
Strasbourg’s versatile midfielder is listed with PSG monsters Joao Neves, Desire Doue and Warren Zaire Emery, as well as Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi. That’s some serious company.
The 21 year old has 5 goal contributions in 22 starts in Ligue 1, but his overall showings across the Conference League, the French Cup and the league have been excellent. In terms of Expected Assists

Barco’s progress could continue at Chelsea
Barco has even been getting call-ups to Argentina’s national team of late, showing how well regarded he is.
There is a lot of talk about Barco coming to Chelsea this summer, and you can see why. His brief previous spell in the Premier League at Brighton didn’t go well, but he’s developed hugely since then.

A transfer exclusive from Nicola Schira says Chelsea are preparing to extend Trevoh Chalobah’s contract, a well deserved boost for the 26 year old.
Gary Cahill, co-incidentally, was speaking about Chalobah this week, and called him “underrated” and the “more consistent” option for Chelsea in defence this season. It looks like the sporting directors finally agree.
