Chelsea agree Palace loan framework for out-of-favour Disasi

Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement to send Axel Disasi to Crystal Palace on loan for the 2026-27 season, with talks ongoing over personal terms.

According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Chelsea and Palace have agreed a paid loan with no option to buy. Hawkins reported that Palace are continuing talks with Disasi and his representatives, with the defender expected to play for the club this season if an agreement is finalised.

Disasi loan move agreed

Chelsea had been eager to offload Disasi permanently before the transfer deadline, amid interest from clubs across Europe, including West Ham. A sale did not materialise, and Chelsea have instead agreed a temporary move with Palace.

The BBC reported that Disasi has been given permission to visit Palace for a medical as talks progress over a season-long loan. Negotiations over the size of the loan fee are continuing.

Disasi’s Chelsea situation

Disasi was frozen out by former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca in January 2025 and has since had loan spells at Aston Villa and West Ham. The former France international made 17 appearances for West Ham last season after joining the club on loan during the January transfer window.

West Ham had been interested in making the arrangement permanent, but an agreement could not be reached after the club were relegated to the Championship. Disasi is now set for another temporary departure from Stamford Bridge.

What the move means for Palace

Palace have been looking for a replacement for Maxence Lacroix after selling the France defender to Chelsea in July for €60.7 million. The club had also registered interest in Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong, but Chelsea were not willing to allow the England Under-21 international to leave Stamford Bridge.

Disasi has consequently emerged as Palace’s preferred option. The BBC reported that he would become Palace’s seventh signing of the summer under new manager Pierre Sage if the deal is completed.

What happens next

Personal terms between Disasi and Palace still need to be finalised, while the clubs continue to discuss the loan fee. The move remains subject to those talks and the defender’s medical, but Chelsea and Palace have agreed the framework for a season-long loan for the 2026-27 campaign.

The potential departure would also form part of Chelsea’s efforts to reduce their squad before the transfer window closes.
