Chelsea’s Corners and Caicedo Volley Sink AC Milan 3-0

Moises Caicedo capped Chelsea’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in Jakarta with a spectacular volley, while the Blues also scored twice from corner situations in a commanding pre-season performance.

Chelsea responded to defeats against Juventus and Tottenham by beating Milan 3-0. Joao Pedro scored twice and Caicedo added the third as Xabi Alonso’s side produced a comfortable result against the Italian club.

Alonso deployed Marco Palestra at left-back, where he provided width and creativity during a one-sided encounter. Milan gave first starts of the summer to Rafael Leao and Luka Modric, while Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez were absent.

Chelsea threatened early when Koni De Winter’s defensive lapse allowed Joao Pedro to run through and force Lorenzo Torriani into a save. The breakthrough arrived just before half-time as Caicedo’s searching corner found Pedro unmarked, and the forward headed home.

Within 38 seconds of the restart, Chelsea doubled their advantage. Pedro Neto delivered a cross toward the back post and Pedro finished from close range.

Caicedo’s performance offers an early midfield clue

Caicedo also delivered the match’s standout moment in the 50th minute. Milan failed to fully clear a corner, the ball looped out to the edge of the area, and Caicedo struck an outer-boot volley into the far corner.

The midfielder combined his assist for Pedro’s opener with a goal of his own after being a prominent figure in the midfield battle. His contribution helped Chelsea regain confidence after their previous pre-season defeats.

Corner situations play a key role

Two of Chelsea’s three goals followed corner situations. Caicedo’s delivery created the opening goal, while Milan’s inability to clear another corner preceded Caicedo’s volley.

The match offered a clear example of Chelsea making use of dead-ball situations: a precise delivery found Pedro for the first goal, and the second-phase ball from a later corner reached Caicedo on the edge of the box. It was an effective part of a performance in which Chelsea remained in control.

What happens next

Chelsea will complete their pre-season preparations against Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim on Sunday before beginning their 2026-27 Premier League campaign against Fulham on August 24.

Geovany Quenda and Nicolas Jackson both struck the woodwork late on as Chelsea came close to extending their lead against Milan. The result, and the manner of the three goals, provided a positive finish to the Jakarta friendly.
