Omari Kellyman leaves Chelsea for permanent Strasbourg transfer

Chelsea have confirmed that Omari Kellyman has completed a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 club RC Strasbourg.

Chelsea announced that the attacking midfielder has joined Strasbourg on a permanent basis. The club wished Kellyman success as he begins the next chapter of his career.

Kellyman joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2024. He made his Premier League 2 debut for the Blues in August that year, before injury curtailed his maiden season at Stamford Bridge.

He then had a successful loan spell at Cardiff City last campaign, helping the Bluebirds achieve promotion to the Championship. Kellyman also featured twice during Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

BBC Sport reported that the transfer is the 20th between Chelsea and Strasbourg since the clubs came under the same American ownership group, BlueCo. The BBC also reported that the deal includes a buyback clause.

According to the BBC, Kellyman joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for a reported £19m in 2024. The report said a series of hamstring injuries disrupted his time at Stamford Bridge and that he did not make a first-team appearance for Chelsea.

A Yahoo Sports report, carrying coverage from SB Nation’s David Pasztor, put the reported fee for Kellyman’s move to Strasbourg at €6m.

Further Strasbourg moves reported

The BBC described Kellyman’s move as the first of three deals expected between Chelsea and Strasbourg that week. It reported that Chelsea striker Deivid Washington was set to join Strasbourg in a similar arrangement.

The same report said that either midfielder Dario Essugo or winger Mykhailo Mudryk could also join Strasbourg on loan. Those prospective moves were reported separately from Chelsea’s confirmation of Kellyman’s permanent transfer.

For now, Chelsea’s announcement confirms that Kellyman has left for Strasbourg permanently after a Chelsea spell that included injury disruption, a loan at Cardiff City and two appearances on the club’s pre-season tour.
