Chelsea have received Manchester City’s first formal approach for Enzo Fernández this window, with the midfielder understood to be open to the move but any deal dependent on the Blues lining up a replacement before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

City finally move as deadline day looms

Enzo Fernández’s Chelsea future is coming down to the final hours. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester City have made their first formal approach for the Argentine in this window, hoping to get a deal done before Tuesday night’s deadline.

Chelsea need a replacement in place

Any agreement for Fernández will require Chelsea to have someone lined up to come in. That is central to whether a deal can happen before the deadline.

Lamine Camara has emerged as a potential replacement. Chelsea and Monaco are reported to have reached a broad agreement worth €45million (£38.5million), including bonuses, though payment schedules and elements of the bonus structure still need to be resolved before it can be finalised. Where Fernández stands right now

Fernández has missed two matches, most recently Chelsea’s 4-3 win over Brighton. Xabi Alonso started Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia in central midfield, while Moisés Caicedo came on in the second half before limping off injured and Valentín Barco replaced him.

What happens next

City now need to turn their formal approach into an agreement, with Tuesday’s 11pm cut-off approaching. Any move for Fernández depends on Chelsea completing a deal for Camara or another replacement.
