Key Bayern player is “really looking forward” to playing at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s season goes up a gear this week as we play our first Champions League knockout game in two years.

This time in 2018 it was Barcelona who knocked us out, and we have an equally tricky test this time around in the form of Bayern Munich.

The German giants are coming to town tomorrow night, and in an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Thomas Muller spoke about his excitement about playing in our stadium.

“I was never at Stamford Bridge and I’m really looking forward to it. Chelsea have young, talented players and a quality team that can really hurt you,” the attacker said.

It is easy to forget we’ve not played Bayern over two legs in a very long time. Our legendary final against them in 2012, in their stadium, has meant that it feels like we have a long rivalry with them in the CL, but in fact before 2012 it was some years since we’d taken on the Bavarians.

Tomorrow night’s game will certainly be a test, but given we’re not expected to win, it will be nice to be able to see the team go out and play with a little less pressure on them than is currently being applied in the tense Premier League race for the top 4.
