Chelsea racing Valencia for another Serie A target

Chelsea have been linked with the signing of Sampdoria forward Luis Muriel to strengthen their attacking options in January.

The rumours come from Spanish transfer rumour peddlers Don Balon, who suggest a figure of around £25 for the potential fee.

Muriel has 6 goals in 14 appearances for Sampdoria in Serie A this season, and has been an established presence in their first team for some time now. He is hard working and intelligent, and would provide excellent cover for Diego Costa up front. His mobility also means that he could drop into the roles currently held by Pedro and Eden Hazard too. This versatility is one of the aspects that would make him particularly useful for Antonio Conte, who may yet want to try more tactical systems.

Chelsea may have to move quickly however. The same Don Balon report mentions that Valencia are also interested in the Colombian, and will certainly look to snap up the 25 year old if Chelsea hesitate
