Chelsea must pay £75million to seal important transfer

Chelsea reportedly have to pay a staggering £75million to seal the transfer of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson this January.

That’s his current price tag, according to the Daily Star, in what sounds like a huge amount to be paying for a relatively unproven player.

Still, could this be a gamble worth taking? The Daily Star’s report goes on to suggest a deal for Gonzalo Higuain has stalled, and we’re running out of time to bring in a new striker this January.

A top player up front is an absolute necessity this winter, and it’s hard to imagine Wilson wouldn’t be an upgrade on Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.

That said, this seems silly money to be throwing at a fairly average player, with the Star mentioning we’re currently only willing to go as high as £50m.

That kind of fee seems more reasonable, but it remains to be seen if some kind of compromise can be reached in the coming weeks.
