Cesar Azpilicueta defends Chelsea teammate in pre-Super Cup press conference

Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has defended teammate Tammy Abraham after the Englishman faced criticism following our heavy loss to Manchester United on Sunday.

Abraham came under criticism for his lack of goal threat at Old Trafford, despite being just inches away from giving Chelsea the lead in the first-half of the contest.

The Englishman is an easy target because of his age and profile, but he’s immensely talented and we have full faith that he will develop into a brilliant centre-forward.

Azpi, who trains with him on a daily basis, appears to agree. Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Super Cup, the Spanish is quoted by Chelsea’s Twitter page saying:

Whether Abraham will start again tomorrow, or Lampard will trust the experience of Olivier Giroud, is yet unclear. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him involved again, however.

He’s highly regarded by both his manager and his teammates, which ought to give him all the confidence in the world – no matter what the media are saying about him.
