Former Blues striker predicts Chelsea vs Newcastle on Monday night with ‘law of averages’

A former Chelsea striker has been asked to do the impossible and predict a scoreline for the next Chelsea match.

As we know, Chelsea have been so inconsistent and unpredictable this season under Mauricio Pochettino, you have no idea which Chelsea is going to turn up on the day. This has been part of the big problems this season and the reason they are still only sat in 11th place in the league as we head towards the middle of March.

It’s been far from good enough and the pressure stays firmly on the head coach this season. But a win at home to Newcastle United this coming Monday night would do a lot to calm Chelsea fans for the time being, as tough a task that is.

Both sides have been a bit unpredictable this season though, and former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton says that is why this one is impossible to predict. But he has done so anyway, and it’s positive for Chelsea.

“How can anyone accurately predict Chelsea versus Newcastle, given the inconsistency we have seen from both teams recently?” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“Which Chelsea team will turn up, and which Newcastle side will we see? The Magpies bounced back from a bad defeat at Arsenal by beating Wolves, but they have not won back-to-back league games since the start of December.

“I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve backed Chelsea at home, and been wrong, but surely they are going to win again at Stamford Bridge before the end of the season?

“I went with the law of averages when I picked a Newcastle home victory last week, so hopefully the same method will work again with Chelsea this time.

“Sutton’s prediction: 2-1.”
