“Nice flair” – Chelsea man gets mixed review after playing for his country

Whether you love them or you hate them, we were in the latest round of international games over the weekend.

Another international break during a domestic season is just annoying but I guess they have to happen, especially with the Euros coming up in the summer. Thinking on the bright side, it is another chance to see Chelsea’s players play in a different environment and under different circumstances, and last night we had the chance to watch some of them start in a big billed game.

I say big billed, but it was still only a friendly match. But England vs Brazil is always going to attract a viewing or two regardless, and from a Chelsea perspective, both Ben Chilwell and Conor Gallagher started the game.

Chilwell was awful to be honest, but Gallagher was a little better. The midfielder has earned mixed reviews after his performance, with Sky Sports report and rating summing it up perfectly really.

They rated him a 6, which is fair, and had this to say:

‘Bright in the first half and showed excellent running on and off the ball. He even pressed Brazil after five seconds! Showed some nice flair to present Watkins with his big early chance – but too many wayward balls going forward made him anonymous at times, especially after the break.’
