“Reluctant to spend” – Journalist says Chelsea looking at smarter transfer option

As we know, Chelsea will be looking to do some more transfer business in the coming window at the end of the season, but it might not be as crazy as we have witnessed from these owners in past windows.

January was super quiet for Chelsea all around really, but the summer is when they are expected to be making some final decisions on a number of players in terms of who they want to sell, who they want to bring in, and what other plans they will be partaking.

It seems pretty certain that the club will be looking to do business a bit smarter this summer, and according to journalist Simon Phillips this week, that could mean that they look at other options to Victor Osimhen, who has a super expensive release clause.

Phillips has put out a bumper transfer news updates article on his personal Substack site yesterday, and there are some snippets on new strikers in there.

He says: “A new striker remains the priority for Chelsea in the summer and different ideas continue to be floated. Some at the club are reluctant to spend £100m on another single player especially with other positions being targeted. This is why it is not a guarantee that Chelsea will actually make a move to sign Victor Osimhen, even though the serious interest does remain, early groundwork has been put down, and many at the club still see him as the dream and perfect number 9 profile that they need to bring in.

“Osimhen is wanted by many clubs though, and Chelsea have also been put off by the big wages that he will ask for.

“This brings me to my next point. Some at the club would prefer a cheaper option and that is why Benjamin Sesko has been scouted heavily this season, as I exclusively reported on the site again recently and has now come out from many other outlets since.”
