“Would hope” – Manager gives Reece James injury update ahead of crucial time

Chelsea have been without their club captain for a massive part of this season already, but he might soon be back in what would be a massive boost for the club and manager Mauricio Pochettino.

James has had recent surgery after sustaining a hamstring injury against Everton back in December. His road to recovery has been long, but there is hope that we wont have to wait too much longer now before a return to action.

EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea add new Premier League full back to transfer shortlist. Also, a promising French left back has joined the same list!

Despite his lack of game time, England manager Gareth Southgate is eager to remain hopeful around James. When asked if he was out of contention for the tournament, Southgate said: “No, we don’t have an exact date for him coming back but we would hope he would have some games before the Euros.

“Could he play seven games in the Euros? His record over the last few years would suggest no. But is he a top level player who could provide something important, no question.

“So yeah again he is another one who the first step is get back into training, get back into the team and build that physical resistance as quickly as possible.”

Chelsea will obviously be keen to introduce him back into training and into the team very slowly in order to avoid any more setbacks. They have Malo Gusto who has been superb in the absence of James, and there is absolutely no need to rush him back into the fold.
