Chelsea keen on 19 year old who is a perfect fit – but Tottenham could destroy chances of €20m deal

SportWitness are reporting that Chelsea are ready to make a serious move to try and sign Lecce left back Patrick Dorgu this summer.

Their translation of a story in the Italian media claims that the Blues and Tottenham are both chasing Dorgu, who has established himself as one of the best attacking full backs in the league, despite being just 19 years old.

The report says that €20m would be the minimum Lecce ask for, and it could quickly get significantly more expensive than that. There are a host of other teams interested – AC Milan, Atletico Madrid etc.

But an interesting twist is that in a recent interview with Flashscore he named Chelsea as his “dream” destination. We’re not sure if he’s seen us recently…

That could give us the edge, but in the end money talks, and unless we manage to sell one of our existing options at left back, it may be hard to justify buying another. To make things worse, it seems Tottenham are ahead of us in terms of getting in gear. The same report says they’ve already initiated contact with the Apulian club about a move.

A good fit, but only at the right price

We see a lot of players suggested in links to Chelsea which simply seem unrealistic as options. But in this case, it does add up. He’s the right age, he’s at a smaller club on a small wage, and fits into most of the other boxes our sporting directors like to tick.

There’s only one issue – the interest from Spurs. If we can nick Dorgu for €20m, we think we’d do that deal now. However if our Premier League rivals really get involved, that’s going to drive the price higher, and it could quickly become unfeasible considering our financial situation at the moment.
