18 year old gains European experience as Chelsea scout him – but European giants will be a huge rival

Chelsea are being linked with Lille defender Lenny Yoro once again. The 18 year old is continuing his astonishing breakout campaign, now adding European experience to his amazing start to life in Ligue 1.

His Lille team took on Aston Villa this week in the Europa League, and Yoro acquitted himself well once again.

The game at Villa Park was well attended, and not just by happy Villa fans watching their side earn a big win. According to a report from HITC, Chelsea and Arsenal both had scouts present to watch the match, with Yoro a particular focus for both of them.

Right now his development is best served by staying put and working with the fantastic Paolo Fonseca in Lille, where he’s getting far more opportunities than he would in most other places. But eventually he will feel ready to move on, and at that point Chelsea will have the tough task of making their pitch.

A long shot with a chance

The problem may not even just be Premier League rivals like Arsenal. While they’re patiently waiting in the background, the true threat could be Real Madrid. They’ve made a real habit of poaching top young French players like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni in recent years, and Yoro is sure to be keen to want to join them.

All Los Blancos have to do it bide their time, watch how the youngster develops, then make their offer when they think he’s ready. He’s never going to turn down that sort of opportunity.

Perhaps the best point Chelsea can make in trying to sign him is that we have a disaster situation at centre back right now, leaving the way pretty clear for a prodigy like him.
