Two Chelsea players have “knocks” which can be fixed with crucial week off

In the wake of another dreadful result for Chelsea at the weekend, we tried to find something positive to look ahead to from the week to come.

One thing we did not was that the Blues don’t play again until Monday night, meaning more than a week off for Mauricio Pochettino and his men. They don’t exactly need a rest at this point – although it always helps. The focus will be more on getting injured players back.

But according to Bobby Vincent of Football London, there were perhaps more issues than we suspected when it came to our squad. Malo Gusto was given a much needed rest at the weekend, but apparently it was more than that, and he’s been carrying some “little knocks,” – nothing serious, but more than enough to justify a rest.

Cole Palmer is apparently in the same situation after a punishing recent schedule, and while Pochettino insisted there were no injury issues when talking about his removal towards the end of the game at the weekend, there’s only a fine line between fatigue and some knocks anyway.

Let’s hope both are 100% by Monday.

No excuses

That should mean no excuses for Pochettino and his team against Everton, especially at home. Although there should have been no excuses against Burnley and Sheffield United, and we managed to stuff those games up anyway.

If Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill are also back (likely but not guaranteed), the manager will really be working with a group close to full fitness.
