Moises Caicedo sprays one to the left wing.

114 touches shows how Chelsea man of the match ran the game against Forest

Yesterday’s Chelsea win swung violently both ways, and the Blues were actually pretty poor for most of the game despite getting a win. They lacked control at times, and were pretty sloppy in defence.

One player who was great all game however was Moises Caicedo. And his stats show it. He was the top rated player on WhoScored with a 7.8 rating, and he more than deserved it. His form has been steadily improving after some pretty bleak moments, and yesterday was perhaps the best we’ve seen yet from him.

As well as getting an assist, Caicedo was so neat and tidy in possession, with a 92% success rate and 2 key passes. his 114 touches were second only to Thiago Silva in the whole game.

Defensively he was a rock too – he led the team in interceptions, as well as making 2 clearances and 2 blocks. It was the sort of all action performance we’ve seen a few of in the last few weeks. Just when Notting Forest starting getting control of the game, Caicedo was always on hand to win the ball back and start a move forward.

A big money signing finally clicking into gear

Yesterday’s outstanding showing adds another impressive performance to a growing library from Caicedo. We didn’t want to accept it at first, because the conclusions are so worrying, but it really does look like he’s a player transformed when not playing alongside Enzo Fernandez.

The space he has to cover are that much smaller, and he is always arriving at the right moment rather than a second too late. It will be fantastic for his confidence to get this great run in at the end of the season, and we then have the whole summer to work out how to get the balance with him and Enzo right next year.

  1. We’re on the same page on this one. A poor reflection on the manager for not seeing this though.

  2. I’ve been saying this for a long time. Enzo can’t defend and the position and task he’s given needs energy and speed

    1. He always thrive when Enzo is not around. The manager should know when to use bith players.

  3. Chelsea surprised me. Can they do this in the remaining matches. Then pochetino can stay.

  4. Chelsea has a great midfield, all of them young and ambitious but they need to understand that their goal is the same. The summer will give the coach an opportunity to make all the midfielders blend and complement each other for the team to be competitive and winning more games. With some more experience defense, Chelsea will conquer Europe again very soon.

  5. Chelsea should get a manager @level of Pep Quadiola and see big transformation with these Chelsea lads, Pochentino lacks idea sometimes on how to manage and play these lads to their best positions………with good manager, Chelsea don’t even need to sign new players.

    1. He has really improved without Enzo. He is reminding me of Makelele. I hope he is working out with him and getting some tips.
