Teenage Chelsea star opens up “most memorable” lesson he learnt from the first team

Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong has opened up on what is was like to make his Chelsea debut against Tottenham earlier this month, and the most important thing he learned from the first team.

The 18-year-old has had a brilliant season and was a key part of the under-18 side which won the under-18 Premier League southern title.

The youngster has spent time training with the first team this season and is preparing for Tuesday night’s under-18 Premier League national final against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The defender is another top talent from the club’s famous Cobham conveyor belt and followed in the footsteps of Alfie Gilchrist by making his Chelsea debut this season.

He has been speaking of his desire to show fans what the next generation of Chelsea could look like and is looking forward to playing in front of such a big crowd.

“I’m thrilled that the boys will be able to experience playing on the big stage, it almost feels like an out of body experience and it is just surreal, there is no better feeling”, he told Chelsea’s website.

Acheampong made his debut against Tottenham earlier this month.

“It will be great to have the chance to play in front of a big crowd so we are able to show what the next generation of Chelsea could look like.”

Acheampong has also been reflecting on his Chelsea debut, when he replaced Alfie Gilchrist in the 84th minute of the 2-0 win against Tottenham, stating he’s learnt a lot from his time with the first team.

“One of the most memorable lessons I learned from the first team is the importance of togetherness”, he added.

“We need to fight as a team and support each other on and off the field.

“We have a strong bond already as a team, but as we head into this final our connection will only get closer.

“We all want to win the trophy, not only for ourselves but for each other and for our coaching staff, who have helped us along the way.”

It remains to be seen what Chelsea’s plan for the youngster is next season, but there have been some reports linking him with a move to Newcastle or Tottenham.

He has two years remaining on his current contract, and the most likely next step would be to go on loan next season and gain first team experience.
