Chelsea won 2.15 points per game with this player on the pitch but may still try to sell him

Trevoh Chalobah missed half of this season injured, and at times he felt like a bit of a forgotten man. Fans were still excited by shiny new toys Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi.

But by the end of the campaign he was being lauded as one of our top performers, and the stats more than back that up.

A Twitter user ran the numbers and found it was very clear that Chalobah was our best performing player in terms of points per game. The Blues managed 2.15 when Chalobah was in the team, putting him top of players who played more than 500 minutes.

In 2021/2022, his breakout season, he was also top of the table among Chelsea players with more than 1000 Premier League minutes.

An interesting note was the players in second and third – goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, then Marc Cucurella and Malo Gusto sharing third place.

A blindingly obvious next step

It’s so clear that selling him would be a mistake by Chelsea. Unless a team comes in offering £70m or something (and the offers we’ve had before have been probably half of that) we’re not going to get anyone remotely as good as a replacement.

So why overcomplicate things? Keep the players who do well and sell the ones who don’t. It’s not hard. The stat above couldn’t make it any more plainly obvious that Chalobah is one of the top performers in the squad, even if that wasn’t obvious to you from simply watching the games and seeing the improvement in our performances since his return in February.
