Chelsea are closing in on the appointment of Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as their next manager, with the Italian wanting to bring five members of staff with him according to reports.
The Blues have moved quickly following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure last Tuesday, after just one season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The club are hoping to wrap up a deal for Maresca by the end of week, and are expected to have to pay in the region of £10m compensation to the Foxes.
Former Chelsea player to be part of Maresca’s staff
The 44-year-old guided Leicester to the Championship title last season, and has also been an assistant coach to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are set to offer Maresca a five year deal according to reports, with the final details of the contract being sorted, as well as what staff members the Italian wants to bring with him.
Mail Sport have reported Maresca wants to bring up to five members of staff with him from the King Power Stadium.
One name will be familiar to Chelsea fans and that’s former goalkeeper Willy Caballero who was Maresca’s number two at Leicester, with Mail Sport adding he’s expected to be one of the coaches who makes the move with the 44-year-old.
Caballero was at Chelsea from 2017-2021, having joined on a free transfer from Manchester City, and went on to make 38 appearances for the Blues.
The Argentine won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge and since retiring has embarked on a career in coaching.
The duo face a tough task at Chelsea, and the main aim will be to get the club back into the Champions League, whilst the Europa Conference League represents a huge opportunity to a win a trophy and get off to a really good start to life in west London.
