The noise on the new Chelsea manager continues, and there is report after report after report coming out on it basically every few hours right now.
There are a host of names being mentioned, and there is an apparent mystery name also being mentioned too. Basically, I think Chelsea seem to be doing all they can to operate in silence appointing this new manager, but the media outlets have their names they are putting out there.
Sources: Two sources report Chelsea interest in manager name who hasn’t been reported yet!
The BBC are the latest outlet to put their report out, written by Nizaar Kinsella who has appeared to move from The Evening Standard across to The BBC. Nizaar has always written about Chelsea and has contacts on that side of things.
He claims Chelsea have drawn up an early shortlist of managerial options, which includes Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank.
McKenna, who would cost more than £4m in compensation, is believed to be the frontrunner as Chelsea target a quick appointment.
It’s interesting he mentions Chelsea want a quick appointment but also says this is an ‘early’ shortlist of managers suggesting that the search is not far along at all?
Anyway, Chelsea will need to get a new manager in place as soon as they can with the next pre-season right around the corner and also a summer transfer window about to open.
None of these names are very inspirational
You wouldn’t expect Chelsea to be targeting Championship managers to lead the team next season but this is apparently the route they are looking at as part of their strategy. They want a young up and coming manager rather than one that’s proven, a lot like they have done their heavily criticised young squad build too!
Appointing any of the names above would present a HUGE risk.
