John Cross’s long summary in the Daily Mirror of Chelsea’s transfer situation doesn’t tell us much we don’t already know.
The club need to sell to balance the books. They may have to sell home grown players to do it, with Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah top of the list. They are looking to sign a new defender, a new striker and a new goalkeeper. So far its much the same story we’ve heard from all over the place since the end of the season.
But there is one interesting addition here – the idea that the Blues could sell Reece James. The Villains have made the Champions League, and have an interest in Conor Gallagher. But it seems he’s not the only member of the Blues’ squad they’re looking into:
“Aston Villa have their own PSR concerns but they have been linked with Gallagher who will be part of England’s Euros squad this summer. Reece James has even been seen as a potential target but that would be unlikely even if it would help raise further cash,” Cross wrote in his piece.
A bad idea – and a bad time to sell
Forget unlikely – we’d like to hear it’s impossible. With James’ dreadful injury record what it is, there’s no way that any team would pay half of what he’s worth right now. Selling at a low is famously not what you’re supposed to do – we’re sure the owners have got their heads around that basic business principle by now.
Even if you were looking at the situation without a shred of emotion or feeling for James’ history with the club and connection with the fans, you’d be telling Chelsea not to sell him this summer while his value is as low as its ever been.
You’re crazy with that statement about Reece James. Selling to Aston Villa?. You don’t know what you are saying.
