Top source says Chelsea make €55m third offer for unique wonderkid – and it could be enough

Late last night, reliable Brazilian journalist Bruno Andrade revealed that Chelsea are moving ahead strongly with their intentions to sign Estevao Willian, the latest gem off the Palmeiras production line.

The Blues have apparently made a €30m offer for the youngster, with clauses that could take the deal to €55m. That seems like crazy money for such a young kid, but most people are saying it would be good value given his universally appreciated, seemingly unlimited talent.

We have already made two offers for him, which have been rejected.

17 year old Estevao has a contract until 2026 with Palmeiras, who will be looking to maximise the money they get for him – which may well mean selling this summer. He’s played 11 times for the first team already. He’s a regular in the Brazilian youth sides too.

A wonderkid on a tier above

Deivid Washington, Angelo Gabriel, Andrey Santos… we’ve not been scared of signing teenagers from Brazil since the Clearlake takeover. The model of signing young talents and developing them has inevitably led us to the original home of the wonderkid.

But Estevao is a “special one,” however. At least going by how he’s treated by the media in Brazil. He’s more comparable with Kendry Paez, whom we signed a year ago, in terms of his standing. Like the Ecuadorian, Estevao is considered among the very top tier of talents on the continent, not just another promising youngster.

So we’re all in favour of signing him. It’s just a move that would have made even more sense had we not signed Gabriel and Washington last summer. They may yet turn into good players, they may yet turn into Chelsea-level players. But whatever happens with them, we shouldn’t let it put us off any chance we have of this potentially unique deal.
