(Video): How Marc Cucurella responded to abuse from Brighton fans with risky move

Marc Cucurella was getting booed heavily by Brighton fans from the first minute at the Amex Stadium last night.

Going back to his former club, he was treated to jeers and abuse from the moment he stepped on the pitch.

He responded in the best way possible – by helping Chelsea to a win. He was heavily involved too. The Blues had a penalty for a foul on him overturned by VAR in the first half, and that was just the start. He then chipped up a cross to Cole Palmer to open the scoring, and late in the game made a magnificent sliding challenge to stop a shot on goal.

It was a good all round performance from a player who doesn’t need any excuse to get stuck in. He has his flaws, but a lack of commitment certainly isn’t among them.

That late tackle could have gone another way of course. Flying in like that in your own box looks great and makes a good highlight, but it’s a risky move. A centimetre or two the wrong way and you’ve given away a penalty, and then the home fans are really going to be crowing.

That’s always going to be an issue with Cucurella it seems, you’ve just got to take the rough with the smooth.
