Chelsea in three way battle for 18-year-old Championship talent valued at £30m

Chelsea are set to battle it out with London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham for Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray according to reports.

The Blues have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo and Omari Kellyman, whilst they have agreed a deal to sign Barcelona striker Marc Guiu.

Despite having a plethora of options the club seem to be set on signing more midfielders this summer, and are in negotiations with Leicester over a move for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Dewsbury-Hall might not be the only midfielder arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer and the Daily Mail have reported Chelsea are among the clubs interested in Gray.

The report adds London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested in the services of the 18-year-old who shone for Leeds last season.

Leeds are in a position where they may have to sell some of their key players having failed to win promotion back to the Premier League, and alongside Gray, Crysencio Summerville falls into that category, and Chelsea have also expressed an interest in the winger.

The Daily Mail add that Leeds have set an asking price of £30m for Gray who is viewed as one of the best young talents in Europe.

Gray made 52 appearances in all competitions for Leeds last season, including a man of the match performance in the FA Cup tie against the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

Quite where Gray would fit in at Chelsea if he were to make the move is anyone’s guess given the club have committed to spending more than £300m on midfielders of different profiles over the last two years.

Whilst Gray is a brilliant talent, he needs to be playing regular football to develop, which currently at Chelsea appears very unlikely, and would be even less likely if the Blues complete a deal for Dewsbury-Hall.

You can’t sign everyone, so the Blues may have to accept that Gray will end up elsewhere.
