The Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall transfer has moved very quickly, and we’ve just had a “here we go” from Fabrizio Romano, the traditional way of announcing that it’s a done deal.
Romano has cited a fee of “around £30m” as having been decided today after another round of talks. The fact that that decision was only reached today probably means that we’ve got a few days to go before everything is wrapped up, but KDH is on his way to the medical right now to get that stage sorted.
Personal terms shouldn’t be difficult, and may even have been sorted already. Romano says it will be a 6 year contract for the Leicester youth product, who will rejoin Enzo Maresca who managed him in the Championship last year.
As Simon Phillips has made very clear however, this wasn’t a move pushed by the coach – we wanted KDH last summer, long before Maresca was on the scene. It’s just good fortune that we’re bringing a player who knows his system well in at the same time as the coach.

Where Dewsbury-Hall fits in
KDH is a really good player, he’s just not one that the squad really seems to need right now. As so many times before in the last couple of years, we’re pretty baffled by the decisions these sporting directors are making. They’ve spent so much on midfielders in every shape and size over the last 4 windows, we really aren’t sure what a 25 year old from the Championship is going to add.
To create space, we expect now at least two departures from the first team squad – Cesare Casadei could be sold and Conor Gallagher’s place is once again looking very uncertain. We will try to reserve judgment on this reshuffle until it’s had a chance to bed in, but we can’t say we’re delighted thus far.
KDH is a special player.
His energy matches that of Connor and his eye for goal is even more.
He is a pass master.
His signing is absolutely good.
Although the Foxes have lost one of their key players, the transfer will help significantly in their attempts to stay within the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules. The fee is recorded as pure profit as the midfielder came through the ranks at the King Power Stadium.
