New Chelsea signing Marc Guiu believes Enzo Maresca is a top manager and feels the Blues can win a lot of trophies under the Italian.
Chelsea officially announced Guiu on Monday afternoon with the 18-year-old completing his move from Barcelona, and signing a five year contract with the option of a further year at Stamford Bridge.
The teenager becomes the club’s fourth summer signing after Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman and Estevao Willian with Leicester midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall set to be the fifth.
Guiu backs Maresca
Guiu will be competing with Nicolas Jackson, but according to reports Chelsea are still looking to sign another striker in the window, meaning it’s currently unclear where the striker will be playing his football next season.
The plan is for Guiu to be assessed on the club’s pre-season tour of America at the end of the month by Maresca before a final decision is taken on whether he will be part of the first team squad for the coming season.
Guiu revealed he’s had the chance to speak with Maresca since joining the club and believes he is a top manager.
“Yes, I had the opportunity to talk to him, and I am very grateful and I appreciate him taking time to have a chat with me,” he told Chelsea’s official website.
“I think he is a top manager and he did a fantastic job at Leicester, getting the team promoted to the Premier League.
“I think we will play great football under him and we can win a lot of trophies.”
Guiu came through the ranks at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy and broke into the first team last season under Xavi, making seven appearances and scoring two goals.
The striker had a debut to remember as he scored 23 seconds after coming off the bench against Athletic Bilbao, and he also scored against Belgian side Royal Antwerp in the Champions League, and will no doubt be hoping to replicate his goal scoring exploits with the Blues.
