Chelsea are moving rapidly in their attempt to sign Filip Jorgensen from Villareal.
Italian insider Matteo Moretto has today Tweeted that the two clubs “have already exchanged documents” for the goalkeeper, indicating that a bid has been accepted and personal terms agreed. It’s really just a formality at this stage, and there’s almost no way the deal doesn’t go through.
The price isn’t mentioned here, but previous reports have it at €20m, a significant level below the €45m release clause in the Danish youth international’s contract. That’s pretty cheap for a potential first choice player, but there’s a good reason for that – he’s only played one season as a regular starter.
It’s by no means a universally popular move – Chelsea have been crying out for a world class keeper for years, and the lack of a consistent presence in goal has cost us time and again.
Mid-priced or just mid?
In the course of a few days, this deal has gone from seeming very unlikely to almost done. We can see why there’s urgency – the team are already two games in to their preseason, and it’s vital to get all of next season’s potential starters into the group as soon as possible to start working.
We’re pretty unsure about the transfer overall – we bought two average, mid priced goalies last summer. Are we about to make it 3? Given some of the reports coming from Spain about Jorgensen, it certainly seems like it.
Chelsea y Villarreal ya intercambian documentos por Filip Jørgensen.

He’s know for being able to play with his feet, with far greater ease than current options Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, and that’s quite clearly why he’s being pursued. Let’s hope his presence helps the team pick up Enzo Maresca’s style of play more quickly – given the results of our first two friendlies, we wouldn’t fancy our chances against Man City on the opening day right now.
