Chelsea’s latest recruit hopes he can learn from rival for the number one shirt

Filip Jorgensen has described Robert Sanchez as a very good goalkeeper and hopes he can learn from the Spaniard.

Chelsea announced the signing of Jorgensen on Tuesday from Villarreal in a deal worth around £21m and the Dane becomes the club’s seventh summer signing.

Jorgensen was thrust straight into action as he took part in Chelsea’s open training session on Tuesday ahead of their game against Club America on Wednesday, but it would seem unlikely he will feature.

The 22-year-old becomes the latest goalkeeper to join the Blues following the arrival of both Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic last summer, and the club will be hoping he’s the answer to the goalkeeping position.

Despite impressing last season it appears Petrovic, who isn’t on the tour is likely to be moved on either on loan or a permanent basis after just one year at the club.

It’s been reported that Sanchez will start the season as Enzo Maresca’s number one, but the fact the Italian requested a new goalkeeper shows that at some point over the coming season Jorgensen will likely become the first choice.

Jorgensen will hope to be Chelsea’s number one this season.

Although he’s going to be competing with Sanchez, the former Villarreal man described him as a very good goalkeeper who he hopes to learn from.

“Robert Sanchez has been with the national team of Spain, where I live, and I followed him a bit when he was at Brighton and now Chelsea,” Jorgensen told Chelsea’s website.

“I know he is a very good goalkeeper and I hope we can learn from each other and produce the best versions of ourselves together.”

Chelsea were looking for a keeper with good distribution, which is vital for a Maresca’s style of play, and Jorgensen clearly has that otherwise he wouldn’t have been signed.

Sanchez’s distribution isn’t the best as demonstrated in the defeat to Celtic and it will be interesting to see how long it takes for Maresca to switch to Jorgensen.
