Trevoh Chalobah has been earmarked by Crystal Palace as a possible replacement for Marc Guehi if the England international leaves the club according to reports.
Chalobah’s Chelsea career appears to be over after he was left out of the club’s squad for their pre-season tour of America and he’s been training with the development squad.
The Blues are now back in London and that situation reportedly isn’t expected to change, with it likely the 25-year-old has played his final game for the club.
Palace eye Chalobah as potential Guehi replacement
Despite having four years left on his contract, which he signed less than two years ago, Chalobah is thought to be available for around £25m.
The academy graduate saw a move to Bayern Munich fall through when former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was in charge of the German giants, and he also turned down a move to Nottingham Forest last summer.
Chalobah reportedly wants to play for a club with a European football and is thought to be in no rush to make a decision on his future.
However, The Telegraph have reported the defender is being lined up by Palace as a potential replacement for Guehi, who is attracting strong interest from Newcastle.
Chelsea’s treatment of Chalobah is baffling given they gave him a new long term deal, and he played a key role in the club’s resurgence over the second half of last season which saw them secure a top six finish and a return to European football.
Given the defensive struggles the Blues have had on pre-season it makes the decision to freeze Chalobah out make even less sense.
It would seem unlikely that there’s a way back for Chalobah and the club have made it very clear that he’s not part of the plans moving forward.
At around £25m there’s a serious bargain to be had for potential suitors, with Chalobah a versatile player who is comfortable in both a back three and back four and can also play at right back.
