Chelsea flag waves at Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic: No substance to reports linking Chelsea ace with move away, fully focused on new season

There’s currently no substance to reports linking Raheem Sterling with a move to Italian giants Juventus according to The Athletic.

Sterling is currently preparing to begin his third season at Stamford Bridge following his £50m move from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.

The 29-year-old hasn’t particularly lived up to expectations since his arrival in London and fans expected a lot more considering his track record.

No truth in reports linking Sterling to Juventus

Sterling is Chelsea’s most experienced attacker and is thought to be well liked and respected by a lot of the younger players in the squad.

However, at times last season he was booed by his own fans and Chelsea are thought to be open to selling him with Sterling turning down an approach from Saudi Arabia last summer.

Sterling has struggled at Chelsea following his move from Manchester City in 2022.

The arrival of Pedro Neto from Wolves has provided more competition for Sterling, whilst Chelsea are also in talks to potentially bring Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix back to the club which doesn’t bode well for the Englishman.

The England international reportedly on wages in excess of £300,000 per week and in an ideal world Chelsea would like to get those off the books but moving Sterling on could prove difficult.

Recent reports have linked Juventus with a move for the winger, but The Athletic have reported there’s currently no substance to those reports and Sterling is fully focused on the new Premier League season.

Sterling is thought to be happy in London and is in with a chance of starting against Manchester City this weekend following a reasonably positive pre-season, and whilst a departure can’t be ruled out it’s likely he will still be at Stamford Bridge come the close of the window.

The former City man will need to raise his game and Chelsea will be looking for an improvement on last season’s eight goals and four assists in 31 Premier League appearances.
