Jason Cundy speaks on TalkSport

Ex-Blue believes good start to the season has seen one player nail down position in Maresca’s best team

Former Blue Jason Cundy believes good start to the season has seen one player nail down his position in Chelsea’s best eleven.

With the amount of talent and options at his disposal Enzo Maresca faces a tough task to work out what he feels is his strongest starting line-up.

The Blues once again added a number of new faces to the squad as they prepare for potentially the longest season in their history with the Club World Cup taking place next summer.

Cundy shares thoughts on Madueke

There are a couple of obvious players that will feature in most people’s strongest Chelsea team including Cole Palmer and Reece James when fully fit.

However, there are many positions that are up for debate with the amount of different options available in the squad, particularly in attack.

Chelsea added another three attackers this summer in Pedro Neto, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho to leave Maresca spoilt for choice in the final third of the pitch, although it’s likely he may have sacrificed one of those in order to have a top striker.

Former Blue Cundy has been really impressed by Noni Madueke’s start to the season and feels the winger has nailed down his position in Chelsea’s best team

Madueke has made a brilliant start to the season with four goals in four games for Chelsea.

“He (Madueke) had a good pre-season,” he told talkSPORT as quoted by The Chelsea Chronicle.

“He’s picked up from pre-season going into this season, and he’s one of Chelsea’s most dangerous players at the moment.

“Chelsea’s best XI, he starts on that right-hand side. He’s pretty much nailed that position down, and that’s what has got him in the England squad.

“As we know, Lee Carsley knows him very well from coaching him before [in the Under-21s]. There’s no reason why Noni can’t continue his form at Chelsea and you need back-up for [Bukayo] Saka.”

Madueke finished last season strongly and has carried that form into this campaign with four goals in four games, whilst he also got an assist on his England debut against Finland on Tuesday night.

Despite the players Chelsea signed, if Madueke carries on this form the position on the right wing will be his and he seems the perfect fit for how Maresca plays.
