“I don’t expect them” – Alan Shearer delivers his verdict on where Chelsea will finish this season

Premier League Legend Alan Shearer has delivered his verdict on where he thinks Chelsea will finish after a positive start to life under Enzo Maresca.

The Blues have taken 14 points from 21 and currently sit fourth after the first seven games of the season and have played some eye catching football.

Maresca’s men have a 100% record away from home having beaten Wolves, Bournemouth and West Ham, but it’s a different story at home with just one win from four following Sunday’s draw against Nottingham Forest.

Shearer predicts where Chelsea will finish

It’s fair to say Chelsea have made a better start to life under Maresca than perhaps many had expected and in just seven games you can already see a clearly identity and style of play starting to form.

The Blues look very dangerous going forward and have already scored 16 goals in the league, averaging more than two per game at this early stage.

A top four finish is very much there for the taking and Chelsea are right in the conversation with the likes of Aston Villa, and certainly have the squad to return to the Champions League for the first time in two years.

There’s even been some conversation over whether the Blues could contend for the title which is far to premature, and Shearer has delivered his verdict on where he feels Chelsea will finish.

“I think he’s doing a good job Maresca because he’s fighting a lot of fires there at Chelsea in terms of the size of the squad,” he told The Rest Is Football podcast.

“There’s no doubt that they would have taken fourth after seven games. I don’t expect them to challenge for the title. I haven’t changed my mind on them. They could finish anywhere between fourth and eighth.”

It will become much clearer after the international break where Chelsea are as a side as they face tough games against Liverpool, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal in a real test of their credentials.
