“He always tells me…” – What Enzo Maresca has asked of his £100m midfielder

Moises Caicedo is a quiet fellow, and it felt like the monster £100m price tag hanging from him was weighing him down a little last season. But bit by bit we’re seeing his personality more, and this season we’ve seen him even captain the team.

This week is a perfect example – Caicedo did the Sky Sports interview which we will see before tomorrow’s Super Sunday game, and also spoke to the Chelsea official website today.

His English gets better and better and so does his confidence speaking to the camera. That’s mirroring his increasingly consistent and confident showings on the pitch.

In the interview with the club we can start to see his personality shining through as he talks about his new responsibilities and his early struggles at the club:

“At the beginning of last season it was a little bit tough for me. It’s a very big club and you have to get used to it. I learned a lot,” Caicedo admitted.

“As I said when I arrived here, I would like to become a legend here and that’s what I’m working hard to do every day. That’s the target.”

Caicedo’s game goes to the next level with instructions from his boss

“[Enzo Maresca] has given me responsibility. It’s good when the manager does that because he knows you can do it well. He always tells me to help the team attacking and defending, and that’s what I’m doing on the pitch.

“He likes when we have the ball. I try to keep the ball. Every game I try to do assists or make good passes to create chances. I am working on both sides helping to get forwards and backwards, and I’m so happy when I help the team to win games.”

This is exactly the development we wanted from the Ecuador international in his second season. Romeo Lavia is now fit to fill in for him when he needs a rest, and he’s clearly really enjoying working with Maresca, who has made it very clear what he wants his key cog to do.
